Nigerian lorry drivers enthusiastic about UK’s 3 month visa scheme

A number of lorry drivers in Nigeria have reacted with interest to the news that the UK is to launch a 3-month visa scheme for truckers. The visa story was reported on by Guardian Nigeria on Saturday, and the comments section of the newspaper's Facebook Page shows some Nigerian drivers are keen to learn more about the opportunity of temporary work in the UK.

Although its expected that recruiters will try to use the visa to hire truckers from mainland Europe, there are doubts as to how many EU-based lorry drivers will take up the offer. That could see attempts to find lorry drivers from further afield, whether it be from non-EU countries in Europe or Commonwealth Nations across the globe.

Lorry drivers from Nigeria and other non-EU countries will nonetheless need to wait to see if the HGV licences in their respective countries will allow them to apply for a visa.

If Nigerian licences are to be accepted, it appears that there are willing drivers from the country who are ready to get behind the wheel of a HGV in Britain. The comments below, which were made in relation to the aforementioned Guardian Nigeria article, show there is interest in the scheme in the West African country:
