Christmas cheer appears to be in short supply among the police force in the Italian city of Modena, who recently fined the operators of a Coca Cola Christmas truck for breaking traffic regulations.

According to one of Modena’s local papers, the truck was not permitted to enter Modena’s limited traffic zone (Zona Traffico Limitato – ZTL). The Italian police took a no-nonsense approach to the violation and issued a fine for the offence last week.

Although Coca Cola cancelled its popular Christmas tour in the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria, Italy gave the green light to the event despite the coronavirus restrictions in force. The truck had already been to Parma, Bergamo, Foggia and Padua without any issues before reaching Modena.

It is reported that the problem in Modena stemmed from the fact that Coca Cola had forgotten to ask for a permission to enter the restricted area of the city centre. Therefore the santa truck driver ended up getting fined.

Fortunately, the traditional gift-giver in Italy at Christmas is La Befana, a Christmas witch, so children in Modena needn’t worry about their Christmas gifts.
