Road police in Denmark have reminded HGV drivers that Christmas decorations in or out of the cab must not break regulations on visibility.

Claus Kjær-Pedersen, Police Commissioner for North Jutland, says that officers are focusing on visibility during the dark winter season. Therefore, drivers should be careful not obstruct their sight with Christmas decorations on the dashboard:

„Several drivers are probably trying to get in the Christmas mood and therefore have trucks that are decorated for Christmas – both outside and inside. However, it is not in accordance with the regulations, and dangerous situations can arise because the driver does not have sufficient visibility through the windows or in the mirrors. And this can have fatal consequences if the driver can not see pedestrians or cyclists . ”

Kjær-Pedersen made the comments after the truck photographed above was pulled over by officers. On this occasion, the driver of the truck was merely given a verbal warning. However, the police may apply a stricter tone should they see regular instances of drivers breaking the regulations.

As our regular readers may have seen, the police in Germany do not appear to be as lenient. Some drivers have been fined around 180 euros for having Christmas lights on their trucks that break regulations.
