Giuliano Venditti, the owner of Venditti Trasporti, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison after being found guilty of tampering tachographs so as to make his drivers work longer than legally permitted.

According to ciociariaoggi.it, five drivers were victims of the fraud.

After being pulled over by the traffic police, the drivers were accused of tampering with their tachograph. The police found that the drivers had actually driven longer hours than the reading on the manipulated tachograph suggested.

However, the five drivers said they were victims and claim they were forced into agreeing to the tachograph fraud by their employer, who threatened to fine or fire them in the event they refused to comply.

The case ultimately went to court, and it the boss of the road transport company himself who has been prosecuted. He will now spend the next five years behind bars as a result.
