In the days leading up to the opening of the A24/Blankenburg, drivers will face significant inconvenience. Signage on the A20, A4, and A15 motorways will be updated to include the new section of the A24. This will require several closures on various parts of these routes. Road services are scheduled to implement the changes during overnight works starting on Thursday, 5 December.
5 December (9 pm) to 6 December (5 am)
- A20 towards Hoek van Holland: Exit 10 (Schiedam-Noord) and the link road at Kethelplein to the A4 (towards Beneluxtunnel) will be closed.
- Drivers can turn around at exit and entry 9 (Vlaardingen) and follow the roadway towards Gouda to reach exit 10 or at Kethelplein to access the A4.
- Exit 11 (Schiedam) on the A20 towards Hoek van Holland: Traffic will be diverted via exit and entry 9.
If the works are not completed as planned, the closures will continue on the night of 6–7 December (9 pm to 2:30 am), with identical diversions.
6 December (9 pm) to 7 December (8 am)
- A20 towards Hoek van Holland: From 9 pm to 2:30 am, exit 11 (Schiedam) will be closed.
- Cars may turn around at exit and entry 10 (Schiedam-Noord) and take the carriageway towards Gouda to exit 11.
The Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch authority responsible for roads, has stated that if works on 5 December are delayed, exit 10 (Schiedam-Noord) will also be closed on 6 December. In that case, drivers can use exit and entry 9 (Vlaardingen).
- Ketheltunnel on the A4 towards Rotterdam: Closed, with traffic diverted to the A13.
- A20 from 1 am to 8 am: The A20 towards Hoek van Holland, between Kethelplein and exit 7 (Maassluis), will be closed.
- Traffic from the Beneluxtunnel will be diverted to exit 9 (Vlaardingen) via Kethelplein, A4, N223, and A20.
6 December (9 pm) to 7 December (1 am)
- A15 towards Maasvlakte: Exit 15 (Welplaatweg) and exit 14 (Rozenburg-Centrum) will be closed.
- Traffic will be diverted via Welplaatweg, Botlekweg, Droespolderweg, and Calandbrug.
- Traffic normally using exit 14 should use exit 13 (Rozenburg) instead.
6 December (10:30 pm) to 7 December (8 am)
- A15 towards Rotterdam: Closed between exit 12 (Brielle) and exit 14 (Rozenburg-Centrum).
- Traffic will be diverted via Calandbrug, Droespolderweg, and Botlekweg to the Trentweg entrance.
Between 1 am and 2 am, the Botlek Tunnel and exit 16 on the A15 (towards Maasvlakte) will be closed for 15 minutes.
7 December (11 pm) to 8 December (9 am)
- A15 towards Rotterdam: The Botlek Tunnel and exit 16 will be closed, with traffic diverted via the Botlek Bridge.
In addition to these closures, Rijkswaterstaat warns that sections of the A20 and A15, as well as roads leading to the motorways, may experience lane closures, potentially causing traffic delays and local congestion. Short closures of up to 15 minutes may also occur on roads in Rozenburg and Vlaardingen.
