According to Darlington and Stockton Times, the company has plans to build a gym for HGV drivers and add a used Red Arrows plane to pay tribute to the those who have worked at the nearby RAF Leeming base.
An enlarged shop, electric vehicle bays and more parking spaces are part of the plans too.
“Exelby Services is strategically located along the A1(M) motorway, making it a popular stopover particularly for HGV drivers commuting between London and the Northeast of England. Its convenient location and its comprehensive range of services make it a significant pit-stop for motorists seeking a break during their journey. Furthermore, the development will not only have a positive impact on the existing petrol filling station, but it will also not cause any significant environmental or community issues,” reads a fragment of the planning application.
As is often the case, there are reports of discontent from local residents, and it remains to be seen whether councillors will back the plans.
