National Highways will carry out work to improve the road surface and reduce the risk of skidding on a section of the M20 coastbound between junctions 8(Maidstone) and 9 (Ashford) from Monday 28 November to Tuesday 20 December.

To complete this work, closures will take place in two phases:

  1. from Monday 28 November to Friday 2 December: from 9 pm to 6 am each night.
  2. on weeknights, from Monday 5 to Tuesday 20 December: between 8 pm to 6 am.

Due to emergency gas main repairs reducing the A229 northbound to one lane, M20 traffic will be diverted at junction 7 and follow the A249 and A20 to re-join the motorway at junction 9.

Due to height restrictions, HGVs and tall vehicles should still follow the original diversion route via the M20 junction 6, A229, M2, A2, A20 and M20.
