Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has launched its operations in Germany, Europe’s largest road transport market, with the inauguration of two advanced public charging hubs near Leipzig. These hubs, located along major freight routes, aim to connect Berlin with southern Germany and Poland, advancing Milence’s goal to promote fossil-free road transport.

The new hubs offer high-power charging of up to 400 kW and are strategically positioned for driver convenience:

  • Hermsdorfer Kreuz, Thüringen: Located on the A4 motorway between Poland and Frankfurt am Main, this hub features eight charging bays and is designed to serve as a key point for freight traffic. It provides universal access for all heavy-duty electric trucks.
  • Vockerode, Sachsen-Anhalt: Situated on the A9 between Berlin and Leipzig, this hub includes four charging bays and is adjacent to a secure truck park with premium amenities such as lounge areas, showers, and restrooms.

Germany is a critical market for Milence, as over 30% of Europe’s road freight passes through the country. These hubs are the first of many, with additional locations planned in Kassel Lohfelden, Koblenz, Himmelkron, Hüttenberg, Kirchberg an der Jagst, and Recklinghausen. More hubs are under development in ten markets to meet the growing demand for electric road freight infrastructure.

“The opening of our first two hubs in Germany demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable and accessible electric charging infrastructure. Germany, as the leading road transport market in Europe, is essential in driving the transition to fossil-free road transport,” stated Milence CEO Anja van Niersen.

Milence offers a user-friendly and transparent payment system. Drivers can pay using various charging cards from leading e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs), the Milence App, or bank cards. The default tariff is set at €0.399 per kWh (excluding VAT), with pricing information clearly displayed on the Milence app and at each charging point.

In addition to the developments in Germany, in November 2024, Milence announced the construction of its first electric truck charging hub in Zaragoza, Spain, which is expected to be operational in the first half of 2025.
