Today’s headline story: Royal Mail dispute flares up again following “misjudged” April Fool’s prank

The Royal Mail has apologised for a “misjudged” April Fool’s joke involving a letter put on display at the Royal Mail Gloucester North base promising staff an 11% pay rise.

The prank came in the midst of the Royal Mail’s industrial dispute with the CWU Union, which has even escalated to the point that threats of administration have been talked about.

It also came just a day after the CWU tweeted that negotiations were at a “delicate stage”.

Reports in UK tabloids such as the Daily Mail state that some staff at the base were enraged by the joke and want the person responsible sacked.

The CWU has described the April Fool’s joke as  nasty” and  tone deaf”.

A Royal Mail spokesperson told the BBC:

“The poster was removed and the local manager has apologised. We apologise for any upset caused by this misjudged April Fools’ joke at one of our delivery offices.”
