Special transport miscalculation causes €500,000 damage

Although the accident only caused superficial damage to the bridge, the damage to the load is estimated to be half a million euros.

According to a statement by Bremen police, the driver passed under a railway bridge on Senator-Apelt-Straße but had to stop the journey abruptly because the load could not pass through safely.

The police add that the truck’s load touched the steel struts of the railway bridge and was severely damaged. Officers had to cordon off the scene of the accident so as to allow the driver to reverse safely.

An assessment by rail operator Deutsche Bahn AG and the federal police found that there was only slight damage to the paintwork on the railway bridge. Neither was there any danger to rail traffic crossing the bridge.

However, the damage caused to the wind turbine blade is estimated at €500,000. The police report states that the surface of the blade was torn up over a 3-metre long area.

An investigation into how the accident occurred is already underway.
