Traffic bans for trucks in Bulgaria in 2020

Traffic restrictions in Bulgaria apply for heavy goods vehicles above 12 tonnes. They are in force on all highways and some national roads. 

This is how the ban applies for consecutive bank holidays of which at least one day is a public holiday:

– on the last business day preceding a series of non-working days, the ban applies from 16:00 to 21:00,

– on the last day of a series of non-working days – from 14:00 to 20:00.

3 March – Liberation Day,

17 April – Orthodox Good Friday,

18 April – Orthodox Holy Saturday,

19 April – Orthodox Easter,

20 April – Orthodox Easter Monday,

1 May – Labor Day,

6 May – Saint Day George,

24 May – Festival of Culture and Literature,

6 September – Bulgaria Unification Day,

22 September – Bulgarian Independence Day,

24 December – Christmas Eve,

25 December – Christmas,

26 December – Christmas.

Also, trucks over 12 tons cannot drive on Bulgarian highways and some national roads from 1 June to 15 September:

– on Fridays from 17:00 to 20:00,

– on Sundays from 14:00 to 20:00. 

Besides, in the summer, when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, the traffic ban also applies to trucks with a GVW of more than 20 t from 13:00 to 21:00. This restriction applies to the entire road network in Bulgaria.

The prohibitions do not apply to vehicles transporting perishable food or goods at controlled temperatures.
