Another „block checks” on trucks in Tyrol

You can read this article in 2 minutes

New Year in Tyrol will start with another block checks for trucks. We should expect longer waiting time at the Austria-Germany border.

Block checks on trucks will start on 8 January at 5:00 on the Inntal highway (A12) near Kufstein-Nord. In one block 300 trucks driving towards Brenner will be checked. The vehicles moving in the direction of Kiefersfelden will not be checked.

How do block checks look?

At the border the police or customs officers control the number of trucks crossing the border. When it comes to the upper limit (e.g. 250 or 300), other trucks in the queue must wait an hour. After this time the procedure is repeated.

„The Brenner summit” is expected to bring solution

The Austrians want block checks and in the future also the annual limit of trucks. All of this to reduce traffic in Tyrol. In Turn, the Bavarians are opposing these solutions. The trucks in Brenner have been already checked like this three times this year. Each time this method led to huge traffic jams.

To find a solution for the transit in Germany that will satisfy everyone, the Germans, Austrians and Italians will meet at „the Brenner summit” in mid-January.

We will keep you up-to-date on further details.
