If you spend your days behind the steering wheel, you still long for a festive atmosphere, don’t you? Glowing snowmen, flashing stars, twinkling Santa Claus conquer the hearts and cabins of thousands of truckers. No wonder, since they bring cosiness to the cabin and we are all preparing for the holidays. But remember, it is still forbidden to switch the lights on inside the cab while driving.
Forbidden by law
The TÜV SÜD (German Technical Inspection Association) reminded truckers on its website that the provision of German road traffic regulations (StVZO) 49a prohibits lighting devices while driving a vehicle. Of course, this applies not only to Christmas lights but also to flashing or circling LED nameplates and illuminated logos.
Only the lights inside or outside of the vehicle that are required or permitted by law may illuminate or flash. “Extra lighting can be confusing for other road users,” said Eberhard Lang, of TÜV Süd. In addition, flashing ornaments from a distance may be thought of as a distinctive sign.
This prohibition, of course, applies to drive – lights can be swithed on when you relax.
