A spokesperson for Braunschweig’s autobahn police has described a stretch of the A2 motorway as “the largest parking lot in the Republic” after a yet more tough winter conditions saw trucks park up for the night.

According to news38.de, the parked lorries were on a stretch of the A2 between Wolfsburg and Peine. Fortunately, a police spokesperson confirmed that there had been no accidents in the night:

“We have the largest parking lot in the Republic. It is still slippery everywhere, the road conditions are still not good. As a result [of the trucks parking up], there were hardly any accidents during the night. The drivers have apparently adjusted to it and we are glad that nothing more has happened so far.”

However, the wintery conditions are set to continue.

More snow showers are expected this morning, especially in the area between Lübeck, Hamburg and Lauenburg.

Snowfall and sub-zero temperatures are forecast to hit Bavaria today too, while another 1-15cm of snow is expected to fall in the Alps later today.
