Anger as Manston Lorry Park bans drivers from cooking or taking photos

Drivers at Manston Lorry Park are not allowed to cook meals inside or outside their cabins, neither are they allowed to take photographs, says a flyer that’s allegedly been handed out on site.

The leaflet has enraged drivers already frustrated by the limited access to food, toilets, showering facilities and basic information at Manston.

Both Kent County Council and the UK Government are adamant that there are suitable provisions at Manston, but most drivers appear to be saying otherwise.

A photo of the aforementioned document posted on Facebook, which was translated into Polish and contains a number of confusing mistakes, shows how many restrictions there are on site.

Aside from the traffic regulations drivers would be expected to follow, the flyer also says they are not allowed to cook inside or next to the cabin of the lorry.

In addition, they are not allowed to take photos or videos, use drones, or even to smoke in or near the trucks (as smoking is only allowed at designated places).

Some may point to the need to avoid fire risks, particularly when thousands of lorries are crammed into one area. However, for many drivers, the rules merely added insult to injury given the situation they had found themselves in.

Driver testing slow to start

Moreover, at the time of writing, drivers still have no information on how they will be tested, when testing will start and where the testing sites will be.

A Hungarian driver told Trans.INFO that drivers were informed that testing was to start at 6:00 this morning, but several hours later, there is little sign of the testing being set up.

Therefore, even the drivers front of the queue do not know whether they can leave the UK today. Many drivers are sadly now resigned to being away home for Christmas. It seems alomost certain they will spend a lot of the festive period in the cabin of their truck, whether it be in Manston or on the long journey home.

It is little wonder then why tensions are high among the lorry drivers stranded in Kent.  Last night, drivers who had been queuing at the port of Dover were asked to turn back for testing at Manston airport.

This morning, a group of drivers began booing and whistling police, and some have even put up blockades.
