Animal transport – practical guides for drivers

You can read this article in 1 minute

Thousands of farm animals and animals for slaughter are daily transported across the roads of the European Union. Directorate General for Health and Food Safety, which is an agency of the European Commission, has funded the preparation of guides on how to transport them.

The project engaged research institutes, universities and industry organisations from 10 EU countries, all actively involved in the farm animals transportation. The goal was to create guides, containing a description of good practices for the safe transport of, among others, live cattle, horses, poultry and pigs. The information contained in the guides is to help transport companies in terms of e.g. efficient loading, unloading and watering the animals.

Project participants included, among others, IRU (International Road Transport Union)
