Revving with emotions and human connections, “Asfalt” is a Danish production that hits the road with an HGV driver’s struggles and his chance to restore family bonds.

Having already won awards at international film festivals, the movie is set to premiere in Denmark in May 2023. The feature film gives a glimpse of how truckers’ lives can take a dramatic turn with a chance encounter on the asphalt.

The story revolves around Lasse, a disillusioned truck driver from Jutland who lives his life like he drives his truck: straight ahead with his hand on the steering wheel and the other hand around a secret bottle.

One day, a young woman jumps in front of his truck, and to Lasse’s surprise, he realizes that the woman is René, whom he hasn’t seen in 15 years. This chance encounter sets off a journey that will turn their lives upside down, as they get the chance to restore a family.

The film deals with themes of loneliness on the road, the disintegration of families, faith in love, and hope for a better future. As such, it promises to be a compelling drama that will resonate with audiences.

Director Charlotte Madsen drew inspiration for the film from her own experiences: her father was a truck driver, and Madsen accompanied him on the road as he did his job.

“Asfalt” has already been recognized at several international film festivals. At the Berlin Indie Film Festival, it was awarded the Best International Feature Film, while Lars Mikkelsen, who plays a supporting role in the film, won the Best Supporting Actor award. The film has also been recognized at festivals in New York and Nebraska.
