The Austrian Central Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association says it expects a noticeable increase in toll rates to be introduced next year. However, the discount for trucks meeting the Euro 6 emission standard is to be maintained.
At the beginning of next year, Austria will increase tolls levied on trucks from 3.5 tons with four or more axles. According to draft legislation seen by the Austrian Central Association of Forwarding and Logistics, the increase will be in the region of 1.4% to 2.0%.
Austrian road tolls are used to maintain infrastructure and their rates are pegged to the inflation rate + 1.5%. Importantly, pure hydrogen-powered vehicles will still not have to pay. In addition, the 1.5 percent discount for trucks meeting the Euro 6 emission standard is to be maintained.
According to the Austrian association’s estimates, the Euro 6 tariff with four or more axles in 2021 will be 41.69 cents during the day (currently 40.98 cents) and 41.82 cents at night (currently 41.10 cents).
