Autumn lorry bans: check where and when they apply

Many EU countries, such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, have public holidays in September and October. Some of these holidays fall on Sundays, when there are already regular weekly traffic bans.

On 1 September, which is next Sunday, Slovakia celebrates Constitution Day. We would like to remind you that in Slovakia, traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), combinations with a maximum permissible weight of more than 7.5 tonnes, and vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes with a trailer or semi-trailer, are enforced every Sunday and public holiday from 00:00 to 22:00. These restrictions apply to motorways, expressways, and first-class roads.

The next holiday in Slovakia, 15 September, also falls on a Sunday. During this time, the traffic restrictions will again apply from 00:00 to 22:00.

Further holiday-related restrictions on truck traffic in September and October are as follows:

28 September (Saturday)

Czech Republic

(Czech Statehood Day) The ban is in force from 13:00 to 22:00. This restriction affects lorries and vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes and applies on motorways, expressways, and first-class roads.

3 October (Thursday)

Austria

From 00:00 to 22:00. The restriction applies on the Inntalautobahn A12 and Brennerautobahn A13 if the destination is in Germany or the route passes through Germany. It affects tractors with trailers with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tonnes, lorries, and articulated vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes.

Luxembourg

The ban is in force on roads towards Germany from 00:00 to 21:45. Restrictions apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over 7.5 tonnes with or without trailers.

Germany 

(German Reunification Day) – From 00:00 to 22:00. Restrictions apply to heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and HGVs with trailers regardless of weight.

23 October (Wednesday)

Hungary

From 00:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to trucks and agricultural tractors with trailers over 7.5 tonnes.

26 October (Saturday)

Austria 

From 00:00 to 22:00.

28 October (Monday)

Czech Republic 

From 13:00 to 22:00. 

Czech restrictions apply to lorries and vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes.

31 October (Thursday)

Croatia

From 15:00 to 23:00. The bans apply to trucks and convoys with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes and trucks and semi-trailers over 14 meters in length.

France 

From 22:00 to 24:00, trucks over 7.5 tonnes are banned.

Luxembourg

 On roads towards Germany, the ban is in force from 23:30 to 24:00, and on roads towards France from 21:30 to 24:00.

Germany (Reformation Day) 

From 00:00 to 22:00. The ban applies only in the following Länder:

  • Brandenburg
  • Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • Saxony
  • Saxony-Anhalt
  • Thuringia

Hungary

 From 22:00 to 24:00.

Poland 

From 18:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to trucks with a gross vehicle weight of more than 12 tonnes.

Slovenia (Reformation Day) 

From 08:00 to 22:00. The ban applies to heavy goods vehicles and vehicle combinations with a gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 tonnes.

1 November (Friday, All Saints’ Day)

Austria

From 00:00 to 22:00.

Croatia

 From 14:00 to 23:00.

France

 From 00:00 to 22:00.

Luxembourg

 From 00:00 to 21:45.

Germany

 From 00:00 to 22:00. The ban applies only to the following Länder:

  • Baden-Württemberg
  • Bavaria
  • North Rhine-Westphalia
  • Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Saarland

Hungary 

 From 00:00 to 22:00.

Italy

 From 09:00 to 22:00. Heavy goods vehicles and combinations of vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are not allowed.

Poland

 From 08:00 to 22:00.

Slovakia

 From 00:00 to 22:00. Heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes and HGVs over 3.5 tonnes with a trailer or semi-trailer are prohibited.

Slovenia 

From 00:00 to 22:00.
