The A45 near Dortmund was closed to traffic for several hours on Tuesday after a truck skid and shed some of its load, resulting in thousands of broken bottles spilling beer across the width of the road surface.
Fortunately, neither the driver of the truck nor anyone else was hurt in the accident, the cause of which is unknown at the time of writing.

At first it was reported that as many as 1,300 crate of beer had been splattered across the motorway. However, police later confirmed that the real figure was 100 crates.
Given that the road was covered in broken glass and beer, the A45 could not reopen until a comprehensive clean-up operation had been completed. During this time long traffic jams were seen on the B45, where the traffic had been diverted.
