In a statement announcing the start of the new system, CMA CGM said that replacing the traditional PIN codes with blockchain-enabled tokens will “improve safety and security while providing a more streamlined and digitized process.”

The shipping company says the change is part of its attempts harness digitization to develop smarter and more secure service offerings, while delivering a smoother user experience for both customers and employees.

T-Mining adds that the use of blockchain for the Secure Container Release (SCR) is a more secure and digital alternative to traditional PIN codes used today for the release and pick up of containers arriving in ports.

Starting from today, the CMA CGM Group will begin the he implementation of SCR in a phased approach. Clients will be contacted individually and receive an invitation to onboard the new solution. CMA CGM aims to start the onboarding to SCR of its clients in Antwerp as this month.
