Update 05/08/2024: Trans.INFO has received information from Mahart Container Center Ltd. regarding the reports in the Hungarian media that this text was originally based on, which have been deemed to be misleading.

Commenting on the reports, Zoltán Fábián, Managing Director of Mahart Container Center Ltd, said:

“These news are selected, significantly enlarged the plans and elements of several track closure options prepared by individual construction companies before consultation with customers – terminals like our company.”

Fábián added:

“Based on the information provided to our company, after several consultations with construction companies and Hungarian State Railways, there will be maintenance works in the near future on railway tracks and bridges that also affect our company, but they will be carried out in several parts (like 48 hours and 24 hours track closures), in consultation with both 3 terminals in Budapest, by the infrastructure manager and contractor.”

Hungarian portal G7 had stated that the five largest intermodal freight terminals in Budapest would soon be inaccessible by rail for a significant period. The closures, totalling 16 days, were said to be set to cause substantial disruptions in the logistics and supply chain sectors.

However, as Mahart Container Center Ltd stresses, the disruption will be nowhere near as severe as had been reported.
