Representatives of transport unions from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary signed a joint agreement announcing that they will fight against West European protectionism.
Representatives of carrier unions from Poland (ZMPD), the Czech Republic (CESMAD Bohemia), Slovakia (CESMAD) and Hungary (MKFE) met on Friday 21 April in Budapest.
During this meeting a statement was signed in which carriers demand the cessation of protectionist measures. This request is addressed both to the European Commission and to the authorities of Germany, Austria and France. They ask for the suspension of enforcing the law regarding the minimum wage for drivers until a single EU law regulating this issue is implemented.
We do not agree to national initiatives which harm the fundamental EU values, the free movement of goods and services,” the union representatives said in the statement.
In the statement they defend themselves against the rules established by Western countries to fight against social dumping, although they are in fact aimed at weakening competition from the Eastern Europe. They emphasise that the regulations were introduced despite the fact that the Eastern carriers were operating “in full accordance with national and EU regulations”.
