Checks at central european borders to continue into November

Poland's Ministry of the Interior and Administration has announced its decision to extend the period of reinstated checks at the Slovakian border until 2 November. Slovakia's Ministry of the Interior has also said it will do the similar with regards to its checks at the Hungarian border, which have been extended until November 3rd.

Poland says the aim of reinstating border checks is to curb irregular migration along the Balkan route.

Slovakia states its measures are intended to help reduce the number of illegal migrants who transit through the territory of Slovakia to other countries of the European Union.

Crossing the border from Slovakia into Poland is possible at the following 9 road border crossings:

Radoszyce
Barwinek
Muszynka
Leluchów
Piwniczna-Zdrój – Mnišek nad Popradom
Jurgów
Chyżne
Korbielów
Zwardoń – Skalité Platforma

Slovakia says that border checks will be carried out as before along the entire length of the internal border with Hungary “in a flexible manner, appropriate to the current threat and depending on the development of the security situation”.

Meanwhile, Austria has just confirmed that its border controls with Slovakia will also be extended for another 20 days.
