Brittany Ferries transports first CMA CGM container from France to UK

The first driverless CMA CGM containers carried by Brittany Ferries across the Channel left the port of Le Havre on Wednesday. The service is now available four times a week, making it possible for the CMA CGM Group to offer a ‘fast lane’ solution for containers, with shorter transit times.

The containers were lifted onto special chassis and loaded aboard Brittany Ferries’ Cotentin in the port of Le Havre. The vessel departed Le Havre for Portsmouth at 16:30 French time on Wednesday, 12 January 2022.

This was the first driverless CMA CGM load to be carried by Brittany Ferries across the Channel. Thanks to the partnership, conventional articulated lorry loads have already been carried on Brittany Ferries’ Portsmouth – Caen route.

The CMA CGM Group says it can now offer its customers a ‘fast lane’ solution for containers, with shorter transit times. There are more available sailings too; four services every week connect Le Havre with Portsmouth.

The partnership, which was signed in September 2021, allows CMA CGM to strengthen its transportation service between France, the Iberian Peninsula and the British Isles, and also allows Brittany Ferries to further develop its freight and logistics businesses.
