CMA CGM confirms loss of 44 containers due to adverse weather conditions

Major shipping line CMA CGM has confirmed that on Tuesday 9th July 2024, while on its Asia to Europe, the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin lost 44 containers as a result of unexpectedly strong adverse weather conditions.

The news was confirmed in an announcement yesterday, in which it was also declared that an additional 30 containers were damaged.

According to CMA CGM, the Benjamin Franklin sailed through the adverse weather while off the coast of South Africa.

The company adds that no injury to the crew has been reported, nor has there been any pollution or strong damage to the vessel, which remains fully seaworthy.

In its announcement, CMA CGM said it had immediately notified the relevant authorities and would proceed to Cape Town to make a throughout assessment of the situation and taking all relevant and necessary measures to ensure a safe prosecution of the sea voyage.

“CMA CGM organization will contact customers impacted by the incident individually to share all available information and grant best assistance in the next steps,” concluded the company’s statement.
