The incident at the petrol station occurred last Thursday afternoon on the A36 near Ecot. As reported by French newspaper L’est Republicain, staff at the motorway petrol station noticed a man who had quickly nabbed some condoms and lubricant before dashing to his truck.
The police were then notified of the theft and promptly began hunting down the truck. Once the truck had been found, a full check was carried out, during which the stolen items were discovered. Officers also learned that the truck driver was under the influence of cannabis and was guilty of drivers’ hours violations as well.
As a consequence, the driver, a 40-year-old from Spain, had his licence seized by officers. He will now have to appear in court after being charged with the aforementioned crimes.
After being released from police custody, the shoplifting truck driver returned home to Spain via train. The truck was picked up by one of his colleagues.
