The newly ordered 25 MAN eTGX tractor units and two MAN eTGS chassis will start operations in June, marking one of Cornelissen’s first large-scale electric deployments. According to Peter Leegstraten, Head of Purchasing and Innovation, the company is committed to working with its clients to decarbonise its transport operations and believes that electric HGVs will surpass diesel models in cost-efficiency by 2027–2028.
With this investment, Cornelissen is focusing not only on reducing emissions but also on ensuring operational efficiency. The company opted for MAN due to the manufacturer’s ability to deliver within its required timeline, as well as the practicality of the vehicle design for urban and regional deliveries. The fleet will be integrated into supermarket distribution routes, where manoeuvrability and reliability are key.
Driver feedback also played a role in the selection process. Cornelissen noted that the eTGX cab design was well received during initial trials, reinforcing the company’s focus on driver comfort and usability in its transition to electric.
The company sees electrification as an essential part of the future of logistics, especially as cities push for stricter emissions regulations and retailers demand more sustainable supply chain solutions.
