Update: HGV driver who crashed into billboard at service station is banned from driving

A driver of a foreign-registered HGV who was recently charged and remanded for driving under the influence has been given a driving ban. As reported by TVP Roads Policing last week, the driver was so drunk he managed to crash his lorry straight into a large electronic billboard at a service station.

The incident happened last Monday morning at Cherwell Valley Services on the M40.

According to the police, a breathalyser test indicated the driver of the lorry was twice over the legal limit.

Officers stated last Monday evening they had secured the relevant evidence and the suspect had already been interviewed. The suspect was also charged and remanded for court.

Besides crashing into a very obvious hazard, it appears that the accident occurred in the section of the services dedicated to car parking only.

If this was the case, the driver would have either failed to have seen countless signs directing HGVs to another lane, or simply chosen to ignore them.

Images by passers-by shared online indicate that the accident happened here:

The BBC has now confirmed that the driver has been banned from driving for two years:

“Ihar Kudzelka, 36, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Oxford Magistrates’ Court to driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated,” reported the UK’s state broadcaster, on its website today.
