The new e-trucks are scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025 and will be deployed across various European markets, including new ones such as the UK, Ireland, and Norway.

The move comes as part of DFDS’ commitment to decarbonise its operations and respond to customer preferences for sustainable transport options. The company has found success with its existing fleet of e-trucks, particularly in the Nordics, and aims to leverage its early adoption of electric transport to gain a competitive edge in evolving markets.

This order brings DFDS’ total e-truck fleet to 225, with 95 trucks already operational in several European countries.

The company’s e-trucks have collectively reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1.516 tonnes as of 2023.

The newly ordered e-trucks are Volvo FH Electric and Volvo FM Electric models capable of carrying up to 44 tons and traveling up to 300 km on a single charge. DFDS also continues to invest in charging infrastructure to support the growing fleet of electric trucks.

Some of the new electric trucks will be used for transportation to and from Volvo Trucks’ assembly plant in Gothenburg.

DFDS placed the first order for 100 Volvo electric trucks in 2021.  The deal was the largest commercial order for Volvo electric trucks at that time and one of the largest ever for heavy-duty electric trucks worldwide.
