Dresden rest area on A4 closed for 10 days

The Dresdner Tor rest area was closed at the weekend and will remain shut until next Tuesday. According to a local radio station, the closure is due to construction work on the neighboring motorway. The entrances and exits to the rest area have been closed off, while the petrol station is also closed.

The temporary loss of the rest area means that lorry drivers will have to deal with a further reduction in overnight parking options.

Alternatives include the “Am Steinberg” and “Am Eichelberg” parking areas, as well as the “Auerswalder Blick” and “Oberlausitz” rest areas.

Demand for lorry spaces is nonetheless still high, and it is reported that some truckers are even heading into Dresden city centre in search of somewhere to park. This has led to increased complaints from locals about streets being blocked.

The aforementioned construction work will see new drainage systems, safety equipment and markings upgraded on the A4 motorway.

The roadworks are being conducted while traffic still flows, and according to Autobahn GmbH, the total cost of the upgrade is estimated be around 20.7 million euros.
