The accident, which occured on Coldham's Lane in Cambridge on Thursday, saw the driver's lorry end up on its side. The bridge strike is believed to have resulted in a road closure of several hours; after news of the accident broke, motorists were advised to take alternative routes. Photos shared by Cambridge Police indicate the lorry was hauling a green-coloured trailer, perhaps from one of the Culina-Group's well known entities. Back in November 2022, Network Rail revealed that 1,800 bridges had been struck in the 12 months beforehand, which represented a 12.5% increase on the same annual figure released in November 2021. The most struck bridge over the November 2021-22 period was Stonea Road bridge in Cambridgeshire, which was struck 33 times. Network Rail says the bridge strikes have cost almost £12 million in delay and cancellation fees in 2021 and 2022.
