Police stop drug-driving trucker who was hauling 10 tonnes of unsecurely loaded explosives

During checks on the A555 near Köln last Wednesday morning, police officers discovered a HGV with 10 tonnes of explosives stored in 300 unsecured barrels. The vehicle's driver was also forbidden from containing his journey as tests showed he was under the influence of illegal drugs.

Following the results of the blood test, road freight transport officers ordered a replacement driver via the relevant freight forwarder.

In addition, at the site of a specialist company in Hürth, the barrels were safely unloaded and then reloaded using additional anti-slip mats and straps to secure the barrels.

The vehicle’s drug-driving lorry driver was fined 900 euros.

During additional inspections of 12 other trucks transporting hazardous goods, there were issues concerning load security in 9 cases.
