A vehicle branded with the logo of a well-known Lithuanian haulage company has been immobilised in France after its driver crashed at the exit of a rest stop while in a drunken state.

In a Facebook post, road transport police from France’s Vars region said that the 42-year-old Belarusian lorry driver who caused the aforementioned accident “did not understand the principle” of when you drink, don’t drive.

According to officers, the crash occurred on the afternoon of Sunday February 13th. The driver, who had just spent his weekly rest period at a rest area on the A8 Motorway, decided to hit the road despite having with drunk alcohol earlier with other truck drivers.

The breathalyzer test conducted by Gendarmerie du Var found that the driver was more than six times over the legal alcohol limit when he crashed.

The DAF lorry has been immobilised, while the driver has been fined €2,200. The man’s fate won’t end there though, as he is due to appear in a regional court and will likely face further punishment.
