A Dutch road transport company has been fined €88,000 for multiple breaches of driver’s hours rules after it had failed to comply with two information requests.

The fine was administered following an inspection by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) in the Netherlands last month.

Suspicions about the company’s practices were raised back in November, which led to the ILT making a data request. This request, as well as a second, were both ignored by the road transport firm.

That resulted in last month’s ILT inspection, which in turn saw the haulier fined €88,000 for violating the working hours decree on transport.

In addition, an official report has been drawn up for non-compliance with employment requirements, specifically in relation to undeclared work by drivers who are not employed at the company. The fine for this is €4,400 euros per violation. The suspect will also receive a criminal record for this offense.

The fines and punishments could yet mount up further too, as the investigation has not been fully completed. The Dutch police and tax authorities are reportedly working together with the ILT to uncover more violations made by the same company and their partners.
