Designwerk GmbH has just presented its new e-truck. This is the second electric truck produced by the Swiss.

The pioneers of Swiss electromobility opened a new factory in Winterthur on 10th May this year. On this occasion, the premiere of a new tractor unit with the interesting name Futuricum Semi E40 took place. The founders of the company, which has been in existence for 10 years, worked on the electric version of the BMW Isetta and co-created the DXP postal e-vehicle.

However, a breakthrough moment for the company was the creation of the first electric truck – the 26-ton Futuricum Collect 26E based on Volvo FM. The vehicle has become popular in Switzerland and has proven its worth in waste transport. Therefore, Designwerk has decided to create a larger truck that will also be powered by electricity.

Amazing power and high range

The Futuricum Semi 40E has an impressive power output of 680 hp and a payload of up to 28 tonnes. However, at 380 km (with a 340 kWh battery), the Swiss tractor’s range is still far from that of the American Tesla. The vehicle also has a maximum speed of 86 km/h. The mobile charger sold by the manufacturer needs 15 hours and the stationary charger 2.2 hours to fully charge the batteries.
