Eurotunnel freight traffic fell by 4% in first half of 2024

The Eurotunnel has experienced varied traffic trends in the first half of 2024, according to the latest figures released. The data highlights changes in both truck and passenger vehicle movements through the tunnel, reflecting broader trends in transportation and logistics across the Channel.

Since January 1, a total of 601,710 vehicles have utilised the Eurotunnel infrastructure. This figure marks a 4% decrease compared to the 624,435 vehicles recorded during the same period in the previous year.

In June 2024 alone, the Eurotunnel truck transport service moved 97,501 units. This figure remains relatively stable compared to the 102,393 units transported in June 2023.

Conversely, the rail shuttle service, which connects the French port of Calais with the British port of Dover, recorded a slight increase in passenger vehicle traffic. In June 2024, 216,772 passenger vehicles passed through the tunnel, representing a 1% increase compared to the 214,180 vehicles in June 2023.

However, when examining the year-to-date figures, passenger vehicle traffic through the Eurotunnel has seen a decline. A total of 967,962 passenger vehicles have passed through the tunnel so far this year, a 4% decrease compared to the 1,009,899 vehicles recorded between January and June 2023.
