Tyrol is once again increasing the number of lorry controls on all important transit routes across the Alps – adding 32 days to the calendar of lorry-checks. The region aims to check every 4th lorry on the roads.

Last year, Austrian police inspected 10% of trucks in transit, but now their target is to check 20% of the road freight traffic, reports eurotransport.de.

For these increased inspections, Tyrolean authorities have added a mobile station provided by the motorway operator Asfinag to their existing checkpoints. Besides the regular checks in Radfeld, Kundl and Brenner, the mobile unit can inspect lorries’ roadworthiness and load security in other lorry parking lots, and bans those vehicles whose state is not satisfactory.

Of course, driving and rest times will also be checked during the inspections, just like overweight and oversize.
