Ahead of last week’s strike, which is due to end tonight (21/03), the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union explained that the strikes concerned the truck industry, port terminal operators, as well as staff in the tanker and oil products industry.

The strikes affected a total of around 9,000 employees and were motivated by a dispute over pay and conditions.

In an update on its website, ATK warned that it is already planning a second strike lasting another 7 days. The union also criticised some negative media reports about its actions, and defended its right to campaign for better working conditions.

Provided no agreement can be reached, transport workers in Finland will down tools between March 1st and 8th.
