Lorry driver found dead with head injury at rest stop near Mönchengladbach

On Sunday evening, a 44-year-old Ukrainian lorry driver was found dead at the Cloerbruch Süd rest area on the A52 not far from Mönchengladbach.

The driver had parked his Polish-registered truck at the aforementioned rest stop on Sunday afternoon, but was later found lifeless lying on the ground in front of his truck cab around 8pm.

According to a local news website, the emergency services in Mönchengladbach were immediately ordered to the scene when the driver was found unconscious. A helicopter ambulance from Cologne had also been requested, but was cancelled after paramedics failed to revive the driver.

WDR1 and other media outlets have reported the driver had a serious head injury.

The police have started their investigation into the incident and an autopsy has been arranged.
