The French government will not introduce the ecotax after protests from carriers, but it is working on a new tax on trucks.

The French Minister for Transport, Élisabeth Borne (pictured), announced last Monday the government’s plans to introduce a new levy on lorries. The French authorities will no longer consider introducing ecotax and therefore they are looking for a different way to finance the maintenance and construction of road infrastructure in the country.

According to reports from the local press, the French will introduce a periodic vignette for trucks (per day, week, month of the year). The draft of relevant regulations will be presented in the coming weeks.
