The BALM report summarizes truck traffic both for December 2024 and the entire year. In December, the total mileage of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 3.5 tonnes on toll road infrastructure increased by 3.3% year-on-year. German carriers recorded a 5.6% rise in mileage, while Polish carriers showed a modest increase of 0.6% compared to December 2023.
However, a downward trend was noted for Lithuanian carriers, whose mileage decreased by 4.2% in December 2024. This was despite the introduction of tolls for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on 1 July 2024, which marginally boosted the overall mileage of toll road traffic in Germany last year.
Traffic of trucks with a GVW over 7.5 tonnes
When considering only vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7.5 tonnes or more, total truck mileage on German motorways and federal roads in 2024 decreased by 0.3%. German trucks drove approximately 22.46 billion km, a 0.3% drop compared to the 22.53 billion km recorded in 2023.
Polish trucks in this category recorded a 1% decline in mileage, totaling 7.48 billion km in 2024, compared to 7.53 billion km in 2023. Consequently, Polish carriers saw a slight reduction in their share of the overall toll road statistics.
