Truck registrations in Germany reach a record high

The number of vehicles on German roads continued to grow in 2024. As of January 1, 2025, the total number of motor vehicles in Germany reached an all-time high of around 61.1 million. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) also provides current data on the German truck fleet, offering insights into the economic situation of the transport industry.

As of January 1, 2025, 3,827,663 trucks were registered in Germany, representing a 2.4% increase compared to the previous year.
Growth in truck registrations outpaced that of other vehicle categories (passenger cars: +0.5%), highlighting the rising demand in the transport and logistics sector.

Meanwhile, the number of tractor units reached 357,301, marking a 1.8% increase from the previous year. The continuous rise in truck numbers underscores the significance of road freight transport for the German economy.

Regional differences

The highest number of truck registrations was recorded in North Rhine-Westphalia, where 799,913 trucks were registered, making it the state with the largest truck fleet. Bavaria also saw a high number of registrations, with 607,223 trucks as of January 2025.

In contrast, the fewest trucks were registered in Bremen (21,063). In Berlin, the number of registered trucks was relatively low, at 118,766.
