Golia360 carriers join Trans.eu as exchange goes live, boosting capacity in Italy

A new integration between Golia360 and Trans.eu Group is now live, bringing thousands of additional carriers, primarily from Italy, into the Trans.eu freight exchange ecosystem. The launch of the Golia Exchange, developed jointly by the two companies, will strengthen capacity availability on both domestic Italian routes and key European corridors.

Expanded carrier network on Trans.eu: more capacity for Italy and Europe

With the integration now operational, Golia360 users can connect directly to Trans.eu’s platform, either:

  • operating within a private exchange environment, or
  • extending their offers to Trans.eu’s wider network of over 125,000 logistics professionals across Europe

According to the companies, nearly 2,000 carriers from the Golia360 ecosystem are being onboarded in the initial phase, complementing the 25,000+ carriers already active on Trans.eu.

Italy freight market challenges: fragmentation, empty runs and limited visibility

The move comes amid ongoing structural challenges in Italy’s road transport sector.

Italy is one of Europe’s largest freight markets, with road transport accounting for over 85% of inland freight volumes, according to Eurostat data. However, the market remains highly fragmented:

  • More than 90% of Italian haulage companies operate fewer than 10 vehicles

  • A significant share are micro-enterprises or owner-operators

  • Strong regional specialisation affects availability across different parts of the country

These characteristics often translate into:

  • limited visibility of available capacity
  • difficulties in covering last-minute loads
  • imbalances on export routes, particularly from southern regions.

Industry data also indicates that empty running rates in Southern Europe remain above the EU average, especially on outbound Italian lanes.

Improving Italy’s transport flows: focus on cross-border freight corridors

The integration is expected to improve load matching efficiency in several key areas:

  • Domestic Italy transport, where capacity is often unevenly distributed
  • Cross-border corridors, particularly:
  • Italy–Germany
  • Italy–France
  • Italy–Central and Eastern Europe.

By increasing the number of verified carriers visible on a single platform, the companies aim to reduce empty runs and improve utilisation rates.

Digital freight exchange and private networks: more control for logistics companies

A key feature of the solution is the option for logistics companies to operate within a closed, private exchange, allowing them to collaborate with selected partners while maintaining control over their network.

At the same time, access to the broader Trans.eu ecosystem provides an opportunity to scale operations when additional capacity is required.

Impact on spot freight market in Italy: faster load coverage and better rates

For freight forwarders, the development could help address one of the most persistent issues in Southern Europe: reliable and fast access to capacity, particularly in volatile spot markets.

While digital freight platforms have expanded rapidly across Europe in recent years, Italy has remained a more complex environment due to its structural fragmentation. Integrations such as this may signal a shift toward greater connectivity and transparency in the region.

Outlook for the Italian logistics market: more carriers, better capacity balance

As additional carriers continue to join in the coming months, the integration will deliver consistent improvements in:

  • load coverage speed
  • pricing stability
  • and operational reliability.

The entry of new Italian capacity into a wider European network represents a notable step toward addressing long-standing imbalances in the region’s freight market.
