No longer „in 500 meters, turn left” but „turn right after Burger King” or „go straight until you pass McDonald’s.” These types of messages are a new feature on some Google Maps.

For several days, Internet users have reported that popular applications instead of standard messages sometimes provide different ones, based on the way in which people communicate location information. In other words, navigation messages refer to landmarks, such as popular restaurants – reports „The Economic Times.”

So far, new navigation messages were displayed on routes in New York. Nothing is known about the unusual form of advertising.

„We were told that referring to landmarks is just one of the methods to improve the location indication. For now, however, it has not been revealed when and if it will spread at all” – reports portal engadget.com, citing the answer it got from Google.
