No, it’s not a truck from a Steven Spielberg movie. It’s Gruzovikus, a vision of an autonomous truck created by Russian artists. Art. Lebedev’s graphic studio has boasted of its design, but so far it does not reveal who commissioned it.
Today’s trucks have been described by the creators of Art. Lebedev’s studio as “crazy bricks with high aerodynamic resistance”. Gruzovikus is different. Instead of a cab, in front of the vehicle, there is a streamlined screen that divides the air stream into two parts so that the whole set is cleaned of dirt. The designers inform that the ‘cabin’ of the unmanned truck is aerodynamic and the tractor is fully automated.
It is planned that the new model will be equipped with cameras and distance sensors, and the additional load on the front axle will make the vehicle more stable on the road than today’s models. The studio informs that the tractor was created to save money. “Gruzovikus does not need to be remunerated and does not need to rest,” the creators say on their website. Obviously, the truck is electric. The creators promise that it will cover 200 kilometres per one charge. For comparison, Tesla Semi Truck can drive up to 500 km.
Autonomous trucks from Russia
Art. Lebedev’s graphic studio needed 43 days to design the vehicle. At the moment, it is not known whether Gruzovikus will ever go on sale and whether it will ever be built. Currently, Kamaz is building unmanned vehicles in Russia. In 2015, the Group presented the 5350 model, which recognizes road conditions, signs and other road users. CEO Sergei Kogogin has announced that the company will be using autonomous Kamazes still this year, but the company will not sell them for the time being.
