On Wednesday morning, officers in the German city of Hamburg were called to a railway bridge on Simrockstrasse due to an accident involving a lorry.
The truck and its trailer was 3.53m tall, but the bridge is impassible for any vehicle above 3.35m. In a police statement, officers said that the driver of the truck had “Obviously disregarded the signposts showing the permissible passage height of the S-Bahn bridge.”
According to the police report, the cab of the truck ended up getting stuck under the substructure of the bridge. Police cordoned off the scene of the accident and the Hamburg fire brigade was called in to recover the truck. In order to do this, air was let out of the tyres and the truck was pulled out.
The S-Bahn train services using the bridge also had to be shut down for around 90 minutes.
It is not yet known exactly how severe the damage to the bridge is.
The truck driver, a local from Hamburg, is now likely to be face charges.
