The unusual transport, which was on its way to the port of Antwerp, was spotted by officers during routine checks on Friday.
Police spokesperson Dirk Van de Sande explained that the special transport broke legal height limits, while a lack of protection at the rear was another problem:
“Two trucks were placed on top of each other and loaded in this way. The legal height was exceeded. They were welded together by the carrier to secure cargo. In this way there was no protection at the rear of the cargo.”
Dirk Van de Sande added:
“The transport company said it had carried out the transport in this way because otherwise it wouldn’t have been profitable.”
Other violations picked up during the checks was a lorry without a bill of lading, plus numerous instances of drivers’ hours rules being broken.
