Dutch police stop lorry hauling load with 6.5 metre overhang

Last week, road police in the Netherlands came across a “remarkably loaded vehicle" with a 6.5 metre overhang.

Officers noted that the special transport was “neatly marked on the rear”. However, the load also extended 6.5 metres behind the rear axle, 1.5 metres over the maximum permitted.

In addition, the police said that the load should have been secured with 9 of straps instead of the 2 that were actually used.

The driver was not allowed to continue his journey until the vehicle had been unloaded.

The police added that the driver has also been fined and will receive notice of the amount to be paid by post.
