Siegfried Hegelmann, Managing Director of the Hegelmann Group, has revealed that the transport company intends to purchase another 1,000 trucks.

Hegelmann told German road transport website eurotransport.de yesterday about his company’s intention significantly grow its fleet. Just over half the of the trucks have already been ordered, and will come from Daimler.

During the interview Hegelmann said there was plenty of room for expansion:

There is endless potential. The FTL market in Europe has a turnover of around 150 billion euros. None of the large fleets – be it Girteka, Waberer’s, XPO or anyone else, has even one percent.

Hegelmann believes this strong fragmentation of the market will not the be the case forever, however.

The Hegelmann Group employs around 7,000 people at its 26 branches in Europe. This number appears set to grow as Hegelmann has said the company “want to continue to grow significantly”.

According to eurotransport.de, Hegelmann is not ruling out acquisitions and expects double-digit growth for 2021.
